The male gaze has been the standard for art depicting women for centuries. Probably forever! I believe that a woman painting women comes from an entirely different viewpoint. There is an individuality that each model possesses. A woman sees that singular personality, letting the psychology of the sitter shine through, while a man often molds his model to his own view.
I have always painted women. Powerful women. Women who aren’t objectified, who project a sense of reality that isn’t glossed over by paint, style, common standards of beauty, and preconceived ideas.
I have put together this short video that focuses in on the details of the faces of the women who populate my work. It’s already getting a great response on YouTube! If you want to see more than just these details of each painting, visit www.lhpost.com
